Your rights under the RTI Act 2064

  • 15-day deadline: The office must provide the information within 15 days of your application (Section 7).
  • 24 hours for safety: Information concerning personal life or safety must be provided within 24 hours.
  • No reason needed: You do not have to explain why you want the information.
  • Appeal path: If refused, appeal to the office chief within 7 days, then to the National Information Commission within 35 days.
  • Fines for refusal: Officials who wrongly withhold information face fines of NPR 1,000–25,000.
  • Whistleblower shield: Section 29 protects employees who disclose wrongdoing inside public bodies.
